Unfortunately for us Moms, hamsters are one of those animals every child wants at some point. This is why I was so excited to be introduced to Zhu Zhu Pets. They are all the fun of a pet Hamster without the mess! Zhu Zhu Pets are fun, interactive hamsters that talk, move and even navigate their way around their own habitat. There are dozens of add-on sets so your child can create a custom world for their new friend.

Our take: Our kids are messy enough. We have one pet and she is exclusively outside for a reason. Like most kids, they beg for a pet. When the opportunity for review came up, I thought this would be a fun way to introduce a "pet" to the family. The set up for the habitat was a bit time consuming. Most of the "areas" went together well, minus the garage and the hamster ball. If you place the opening on the ball slightly off track, it gets stuck and hard to remove. My husband and I were able to fix it a few times, but the kids may have a bit more trouble.
Once everything was set, we let the hamsters loose and the kids had a blast. My kids are almost-11, 8, and 3 and I was surprised that they all played together, as well as putting it together! Although they come with their own names, my kids renamed the white hamster Sara, and the tan one, Drake. LOL. They are official member of our family!
The hamsters are very cute and make sweet little sounds as they travel through the habitat. The car, skateboard, and surfboarding aspects are fun to watch. My kids laughed hysterically when the hamsters are in the home area and "use the restroom!" The best part for parents? No feeding, no poop to clean up, and you can turn them off! One downfall...the habitat is large and isn't easy to take apart and reassemble when you want to put it away and bring it out. Hopefully you have an area to keep it out for a while!

I have bad allergies and couldn't take a real hamster and the woodchips needed to keep the cages etc clean. The hamster without the mess would be a LIFESAVER as my granddaughter wants one so much and it is one of the things I could afford but still can't get her.

i actually like this because my oldest daughter (now 14) has always been obsessed with rodents. Guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters, etc. She has gotten my other 2 girls, 6 and 8, into them as well. My kids would LOVE this toy.
